Digital Twin Technology

Digital Twin Platform

4Subsea provide services, products and support systems that use digital twin technology to enable operators to “know it before it happens”.

Our support system assists operators to make decisions and fix an issue before it happens by using and creating a digital twin.

Digital twin technology gives you the ability to track and gather data in real-time from a physical object through sensors and SMS- and cloud services. It’s provided through the Internet of Things, or IoT.

Digital Twin in Offshore Wind

Are your company an offshore wind-based company who is looking for a way to reduce costs, and to predict potential outcomes and loss of production?

At 4Subsea, we deliver crucial decision support for optimised production for offshore wind turbines. We deliver an autonomous sensor kit called SMS Guard™, used for monitoring wind substructures that are floating or bottom-fixed.

This solution uses and provides key decision support through a digital twin. This way, wind farm operators can predict any harmful outcomes and fix any issue before it happens.

Among others, our solution gives you live integrity monitoring and automatic detection of turbine anomalies.

Benefits Experienced Using SMS Guard™

The SMS Guard™ Sensor Monitoring is a monitoring system used for subsea monitoring. It can help operators predict the potential outcome “before it happens”.

The system provides benefits such as:
  • Decision support as an easy-to-use digital service.
  • A simple to install instrumentation package that enables continuous integrity monitoring of offshore wind turbines.
  • Autonomous, retrofittable sensors, combined with advanced machine learning algorithms.
  • 4Subsea’s domain expertise to help operators realise the significant potential of reduced LCOE (Levelized Cost of Energy).

This monitoring system assists operators in realising the potential of reduced costs compared to using traditional digital tools. The system also helps operators to make efficient decisions more quickly.

It helps your company lower costs in areas such as:
  • Maintenance.
  • Optimal replacement scheduling; repairing or replacing equipment due to age rather than the actual status of equipment.
  • Reduction of cable failures and hence reduced cost and risk of production loss.

Digital Twin Drilling

A digital twin can be used to avoid aborting drilling operations. Together with Lundin Norway, we have developed a case study where we are showing how digital twin technology works.

We are focusing on:
  • Machine learning
  • Artificial intelligence
  • Advanced algorithms
  • Domain expertise
  • Improving productivity
  • Pairing technology
  • Manufacturing processes

By combining these, we see that this provides decision support to both onshore and offshore operations.

The results of the Lundin case

We used a digital twin called Swim to be able to monitor wellhead integrity. We used it to update conditions, and to evaluate potential consequences, and to verify integrity throughout the operation.

When we did the case study, we found that the operation didn’t have to be aborted. The drilling campaign continued with significant cost savings and without severe maintenance issues.

Benefits of Using Digital Twin Technology

Some experts describe digital twin technology as “powerful masterminds to drive innovation and performance”. A digital twin is a useful tool that can help a company with advanced monitoring and analysis.

The digital twins are very predictable, and companies who use this technology will most definitely see an improvement in reduced costs and improved physical assets.

Through this technology, companies can learn how to predict danger and damages before they happen. Are you interested in learning how your company can benefit from this? Contact us for more information!

Cost-efficiency

At 4Subsea, we have developed cost-efficient solutions, technology and services for the offshore renewable energy industry and others.

We are a team of slightly geeky engineers. We are a technology-driven company who are focusing on providing services and solutions that can minimise environmental harm, as well as minimise damage to personnel.

Our dedicated team of engineers are always improving, updating and rethinking our technology and solutions. We do so to be one of the leading companies in the world when it comes to developing reliable, safe and cost-efficient solutions for companies.

We provide decision support systems that help oil & gas and offshore wind operators to “know it before it happens” so that they can avoid costly repairs or production shutdown.

4Subsea

4Subsea was established in 2007, and today, we are a leading provider of engineering systems and subsea technology, solutions and services, such as digital twin technology. Our clients include all of the largest energy operators in the world.

By combining expert engineering competence, operational experience and digitalised decision support, we ensure the integrity of subsea assets from the reservoir to the deck.

We want to be part of a positive environmental impact, and that’s why we always have this in mind when developing new solutions.
